Want to get more mileage out of your Facebook Fan Page? We all do. Without spending ad dollars your status updates will only reach a fraction of your fans, so I recommend that you boost your posts whenever you can. (I’ll be uncovering the pros and cons of boosted posts on Facebook in two weeks.)
I’ve figured out some ways to organically extend the reach of Facebook content by repurposing it on Facebook and on other platforms, as well. It’s a method that gets your content more exposure and can help grow your fan base at the same time. Many of your LinkedIn connections, for example, may not have liked your Facebook Page, so these tactics are a great way to build your Facebook community.
4 Ways To Repurpose Your Facebook Updates To Get More Exposure
1. On Your Facebook Page. Look through your past updates (especially those that link to your blog posts) and find evergreen content (meaning that it is as relevant today as it was when you first published it). It’s perfectly fine to repost it again on Facebook. However, I would wait approximately 4-6 months before reposting it again. And use a slightly different text lead-in. Chances are you have gained new fans that never saw the post the first time around. Sometimes it’s even good to mention that you are reposting a link due to popular demand.
2. On Facebook Group Pages. Chances are you belong to at least one group that relates to your field and there’s a good chance that your content doesn’t reach most of the members. Most pages allow members to post updates and if the page is full of the people who you want to reach and people who would be likely to share your content then it’s a good place to post.
3. On Twitter. If you use Twitter you probably post links to your blog. Try driving visitors to your Facebook Page, too. You’ll pick up some new fans that are already interested in what you have to say.
4. On LinkedIn. Use your LinkedIn profile to extend your Facebook reach by directing your connections to your Facebook Page.
Easy Tips
To find the unique URL of a Facebook post, click on the timestamp:
Then copy the long URL that appears in your browser window:
To publish on Twitter, shorten the URL using bitly.com or the shortener of your choice. Add some descriptive text, then post. (I use the shortener that’s in Hootsuite‘s platform):
For Facebook, simply paste the long URL into your update window. For LinkedIn, paste the shortened URL, add some text, but close the preview window and add your own image:
