How to Control the New Facebook Pages Photo Strip
Many of you have upgraded your Facebook Business Page prior to the automatic update on March 10. So now you are wondering what to do with that funny Photo Strip at the top of the page.
First thing to understand: Facebook will display the most recent photo upload in the Photo Strip, whether you added just a new photo to an album, created a new album, or published a photo in a Status Update.
You may have noticed that the photos are automatically cropped to fit into the small thumbnail-sized spaces.
So how can you control the Photo Strip? It’s easy!
1. Select the five photos that you want to appear on your Page all the time.
2. Create a special album for the Photo Strip Photos
3. Re-size all your photos as close as you can get to 97×68 pixels.
4. Upload the photos to the new album (select them all at once instead of one at a time).
5. Do not click “Publish” unless you want your 5 new photos to be published to your fans’ newsfeed. Just click “Skip”
6. Voila, your Photo Strip should look pretty good. You can change the order of the photos in the album, but not on the Page.
7. Now, if you want only the photos in your Photo Strip album to appear all the time, you must hide any new photos that you publish right after you publish them. It takes a bit more time, but it’s worth it.
Remember, with an estimated 132.5 million US web users on Facebook this year; almost 57% of all Internet users are members. So, your Facebook Page is very important. Although most fans won’t go back to your page after they “Like” your page unless you direct them there, Facebook Pages are public and are just as important to your company’s branding as your Website has always been.

What a great article. Thank you Betsy!!!
Hi Betsy, I’ve been experimenting quite a bit with the photo strip. I guess if you resize your photos as suggested here, once someone clicks through, the image will be quite small in the lightbox. Any way that you know of to determine which part of the image gets pulled into the thumbnail or is what you’ve explained here the only way to make the thumbnail look good?
Thanks!
Hi Stephanie,
As far as I know right now, this is the only way to make the thumbnail look good. But keep in mind that once someone becomes a fan, they very
rarely if ever go back to your page. They expect to see your communications appearing in their newsfeeds. But it’s always good to have a nice looking
page because first impressions are very important. I am continuing to do research on the ever-changing Facebook Business Page and will keep you updated on what I find out about photos!
You are quite welcome!

Hi Carol, The photo strip is mysterious!
If you have a business Page, what happens is that every time you post a new photo on your wall, the new photo appears in your
photo strip (you have to refresh to see it). Now, there is a little “x” that appears at the top right of the photo in the strip when you hover
your cursor over it. When you click that “x” you get a window that asks you if you want to “hide” the pic. When you hide it, you’re original photo
will appear.
However, it works differently on a personal profile. Why don’t you send me an email and we can figure it out together ([email protected])
Betsy
Hi
My photostrip is not visible to others neither as a personal facebook item nor as a page (have both). Any suggestions?
Best wishes
Charles
Hi Charles,
The first thing you have to do for your Business page is go to Edit Page at the top right of your screen, when you get there, click on profile picture, then you will see on the bottom left of the window that opens, an option that says “Row of photos at top of profile”. Click “unhide”.
The photos in the strip will automatically be the 5 photos that you have most recently uploaded to your page – either into the ‘Photo’ section where you may have placed them in an album, or if you have posted them to your Wall through the ‘Share’ status bar.
Now, on your business page, every time the page is refreshed, the order of the photos will change, and your most recent photos appear at the top. This is important: tag each of the photos that you want to appear in the photostrip for your brand. This is I have been able to control the photos that are on the strip is by tagging each one of them for my page. If most or all of the other photos that you or someone else adds your your page are not tagged, they won’t appear.
But a good rule of thumb is to refresh your page every time you add a new photo, just to be sure it doesn’t appear at the top. If a photo appears that you don’t want, there is a little x at the top of each photo in the strip…click on it and it gives you the option to hide it.
The same rule applies for personal pages, so anytime someone uploads a photo that you are tagged in, that photo will appear at the top and you have the option to hide it.
Strange thing is that on personal pages, the order of the photos remains the same when the page is refreshed.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions. And thanks so much for reading my blog!
